Door and Event Security

Successful completion of this programme leads to four certificates

This mandatory course was developed for those wishing to become a PSA (Private Security Authority) licenced DSP (Door Security Person). The skills and knowledge acquired will assist with the delivery of a professional service. On completion of the course the DSP will work effectively either alone or in a team in a range of diverse security environments. Course content includes The Private Security Industry; The Private Security Authority; Law; Door Security Procedures; Communications; Threats and Violence; Event Security; Emergencies; Customer Care and Personal Development

The course duration is scheduled for 30 hours of directed or classroom study and 70 hours of self-directed of home-study, practice and research. Course duration may vary with the quality and knowledge of the candidates. All assessment criteria must be completed during the course and submitted on the last day of the course.



Guarding Security Services GSSB13

Successful completion of this comprehensive programme leads to seven certificates

  • QQI Minor Award in Guarding Skills at Level 4

Course duration may vary with the quality and knowledge of the candidates.

All assessment criteria must be completed during the course and submitted on the last day of the course.



Level 3 Close Protection Training

On completion of this 14-day course, delegates will leave with a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Close Protection and if required certified medical training which will allow successful candidates to apply for a Security Industry Association (SIA) licence.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (6502-31)

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a knowledge based introduction to teaching that will provide an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training. The qualification provides an introduction on how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching/training sessions and how to assess and record decisions.

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector including:

  • the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • assessment of learners
  • facilitating learning and development for individuals
  • facilitating learning and development in groups
  • understanding principles and practices of assessment

This qualification is designed for candidates who work, or want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector. At Level 3 there is no teaching/training practice requirement, therefore it can be undertaken by candidates who are not in a teaching role.

Candidates for this course should have a good standard of verbal communications skills. Candidates can only provide the required evidence for this qualification if they have the knowledge of and experience in a subject that they are able and wish to teach.

This qualification is assessed by a combination of assignments and microteaching. This will involve researching specific topics, applying theory to practical scenarios and demonstrating knowledge and understanding through written work.
